Consult Me For All You Want To Know

Today I was having a gander at my bookshelf and decided to have a dip into one of my old-fashioned "How To" type books. I'm not much of a bookworm and don't read a lot at all, but I like browsing and picking up interesting curiosities, especially when they're as charming as this one.

Back in the late 19th century, when there was no internet, no TV, no magazines, no First Aid Manuals, no NHS, no telephone to phone a friend, how else were you supposed to know the solution for all your household requirements? This book does it all: cookery; confectionery and bakery; household management; diseases and their remedies; dyeing in modern style and colour; and a thousand other things. Handy!

As this tome has advice on such a wide range of subjects, most of which are still of interest in the 21st century, I thought I would photograph and blog a few of its words of wisdom over the next wee while. Well, it might make a pleasant change from stuffed toys in shop windows.

I just found the same book in a Manchester book store. I can't stop flipping through it, but I haven't the slightest idea about it's origination, the only date I've found in it was at the end of a quote from 1902. Not even an author or publisher. Do you know anything about it?
